Steve - Are there any restrictions in using the 3D data from your models in another application like LightWave 3D? Or, do you think this company used your design as a template for their own low-poly version?

This game has lower res models, so I presume they copied my design to get the same look.

As a traditional fine artist....I am constantly seeing my work used in print for charities and some such. It seems that people don't quite understand that they are buying the physical painting....not the intellectual property to redistribute in other forms.
I used to fight it....but now that I am "retired", I just write it off as my contribution to well-meaning patrons. They have treated me well.
In your case, however...there has to be a bit of a Dickensonian sting. Sure it's nice to see others appreciate your work....but not to make profit from it as their own intellectual property. Poor Charles Dickens...he wrote the wonderful "A Christmas Carol"....and spent a great bit of his energy trying to protect it from being watered-down by opportunists.

Hi Steve, There is also several games from sites like gamehouse.com and reflexive.com that have Aiko toon and Hiro toon in them, I wasn't sure if you knew this or not so I figured I'd let you know.
http://www.reflexive.com/BabysittingMania.html http://www.reflexive.com/NannyMania.html?&related=1 ~Dave P.S. I love the toon santa! BTW, my wife wanted me to tell you that she bought so many 3DUniverse products for me for christmas that she might be paying for your power bill for the month LOL! She made me bust out laughing. She loves your products as much as I do.

Those type of games are actually fine. They use several renders of the figure from different angles to make them seem 3d. They don't use the actual model in any way.
Thanks for your feedback and support - I'll remember you when I pay my electricity account this month!

Can your models be used in games? I'm talking iPhone games where the resulting (polygon reduced) character uses 2000 polygons max. I would really like to use most of your animal characters in iPhone/iPad games but from this thread it is unclear whether your licensing allows it?

They can't be used officially at this stage, although when Daz get their Developer site going - most of our products will be available for use in games.

The Daz developer site has been online for quite some time now but 3DU products are not available there. I'm interested in Toon Aiko, 3du Mouse, Squrrel and Penguin. None of these are on the Daz site.
