In this behind-the-scenes article, I'm going to be modeling a cartoon chicken in LightWave - feel free to follow along!
This is not a step-by-step tutorial, but rather a sneak-peek into the process I go through when modeling a custom character from scratch. 

Skill level: advanced
Time Taken: about 3 hours

I start with layout out basic blocks to define where I want the wing feathers to be...

Creating the wing bone structure...

Modeling a single feather...

Adding the feather to the wing layout...

Finished off the wing basics - starting on the body shape...

More body work...

Joined the wings to the body...

Body mirrored across the x axis and concerted to sub-division...

Starting on the neck...

On to some fancy footwork...


Nail details being extruded in...


Starting on the head...

Onto the beak...


Head detailing...



That's basically it for the modeling. After many other steps, this is our final rigged result...
